Chapter 3: Maintenance and
Prevention
Kontron Embedded Computers systems require minimal maintenance and care to keep
them operating correctly.

Occasionally wipe the system with a soft dry cloth.
Š
You should only remove persistent dirt by use of a soft, slightly damp cloth (use
only a mild detergent).
Š
Clean the air filter mats regularly (refer to the “Cleaning the Filter Mat” section).
Replacing the System’s Fans
CAUTION
The KISS-Platform should only be operated with a functioning fan
slide-in module (refer to the “Replacing the System’s Fans”
section).
Defective components should only be replaced with Kontron
original spare parts.

Note: The fan slide-in module may be changed while the KISS-Platform is
powered-up. This maintenance should only be carried out by qualified
personnel familiar with the associated dangers.
To replace fan slide-in module, proceed as follows:
1. Open the unit as described in “Accessing Internal Components” (page 39), steps
2-3. Pull out the device cover only as far as necessary to have access to the fan
slide-in module.
2. Loosen the captive knurled screw (fig. 23, pos. 4). Use the handle (fig. 23, 24 pos.
2) of the fan slide-in module and pull it out from the fan case (fig. 25 pos. 9).
