3. Introduction
ETXexpress-WPM
The ETXexpress-WPM (Type 3 COM Express Module) is based on the Intel® Pentium®
M processor (up to 2 GHz) and the Intel Express chipset Intel 3100 (Whitmore Lake)
that supports up to 12 PCI Express lanes for high I/O bandwidth. The ETXexpress-
WPM (ETXexpress-WPM) is ideal for network equipment and telecom OEMs as well as
test and measurement OEMs. The ETXexpress-WPM Module does not support video
output to CRT or flat panels, nor does it support sound.
This latest addition to Kontron’s line of COM Express compliant Computer-On-Modules
(COMs) supports up to 512MB, 1GB, and 2GB (future) system memory in each of the
two on-board sockets for 244-pin mini-DIMM modules in vertical configuration or 1 on-
board socket in horizontal configuration.
In line with the fact that PCI Express is the primary data path for the vast majority of
future-focused embedded applications, the ETXexpress-WPM has up to 12 PCI
Express lanes. For fast communications, two of the PCI Express lanes that the chipset
supports facilitate the module’s dual Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) capability. A 10/100Base-
Tx Ethernet port also is available, for a total of three Ethernet connections.
Non PCI Express components such as PCI plug-in cards can still be supported with the
PCI 2.1, 32 bit interface that is included in the ETXexpress-WPM Module.
The ETXexpress-WPM provides fast interfaces for external peripherals by way of
support for four USB 2.0 ports and four SerialATA ports (Type I).
Five mounting holes on the board provide secure mounting to better tolerate shock and
vibration.
