12.3 Operation
12.3.1 Developing Roller
• The Developing Roller consists of an outer sleeve roller and an inner magnet roller.
• The roller conveys developer to the point of development.
• The developer (carrier and toner) in the Developer Mixing Chamber is conveyed onto the
point of development by the Toner Conveying Rollers and the Developing Roller.
12.3.2 Developing Bias
• Vb (-DC, AC) is applied to the Developing Roller.
• Vb (-DC) is applied to prevent toner from sticking to the background of the image.
• Vb (AC) is applied to enhance good separation of toner from carrier.
• The amount of toner sticking to the surface of the PC Drum is varied according to the dif-
ference in potential between the voltage (Vi) on the surface of the PC Drum and
Vb (-DC).
• Large difference = A greater amount of toner sticks.
• Small difference = A smaller amount of toner sticks.
