Wall Preparation
WARNING: Risk of property damage. To properly support the weight of the
vanity and lavatory, backing material is required behind the finished wall.
NOTE: The dimension provided in this procedure will result in a 34-1/2
″
(87.6 cm)
vanity height with lavatory. If an alternate height is desired, use the rough-in
provided with the vanity and lavatory to determine the proper height of the backing
material.
Vanity
Measure and mark the determined height 30
″
(76.2 cm) from the floor. This will be
the height from the floor to the top of the 2x10 backing material.
Ensure there are no obstructions in the wall (such as wiring or plumbing) from
the marked height down to the floor. If there are obstructions, select another area
within the site to install the vanity.
Front-notch the studs 1-1/2
″
(3.8 cm) to ensure proper support for the backing
material.
Secure the 2x10 backing material to the studs with framing nails.
Rough in the water supply and drain lines into the plumbing cutout area of the
vanity. Refer to the lavatory roughing-in and the vanity roughing-in for proper
placement.
Lavatory
Front-notch the studs 1-1/2
″
(3.8 cm) to ensure proper support for the backing
material.
Position 2x6 backing material flush against the installed 2x10 backing material.
Using framing nails, secure the 2x6 backing material to the studs.
Finish the Wall
Complete the finished wall.
