Classic Cantabile
X-20 Pocket Sax
Article: 00034016
Instruction manual:
1.
Before you use the pocket sax for the first time liberally apply cork grease to the tenon corks on all joints.
2.
Carefully connect the mouthpiece to the wooden lower joint. See picture above for right connection.
3.
Next step is to prepare the reed. Beginners should use thin reeds (same like clarinet reeds) gauge 1; 1,5 or
2. This will help you to improve your skills faster. Before you start playing take the reed with thin side for
few minutes in your mouth to make it wet and smooth. This will make the reed elastic and the tone
(vibration) will be more warm and natural.
4.
Properly position the reed on the mouthpiece. Slide the ligature over the reed tip. After the ligature is
properly positioned, hand tighten the ligature screws.
5.
The pocket sax is now ready to use. After playing remove reed ligature and mouthpiece and clean all
pieces with dry cloth to remove all moisture. It is important to keep your instrument clean both for
hygiene reasons and to keep the pocket sax in good playing condition.
How to play:
1.
Pick up the pocket sax and place the mouthpiece on your
lips. Gently hold it between your lips and balance it with
your fingers. Remember to put your left hand at the top.
The back side with one hole should face you. The front side
should face away from you.
2.
Do not bite the mouthpiece or allow it to touch your teeth.
3.
Blow into the pocket sax to get an idea of how it will sound.
You will need to blow gently. Think about blowing bubbles
as you do this. Blowing softly with a steady stream of air is
one of the most difficult but important techniques as you
begin to play.
4.
If you blow too hard, you will produce a sharp, unpleasant
sound. Blow more gently in order to produce a musical
sound. Breathe from the diaphragm and make sure you
blow evenly. It will help to keep the sound consistent.
5.
A simple fingering chart is used to represent the notes on
the pocket sax.
Tone range and flute fingering chart:
The pocket sax tone range is c´ to d´´. The flute fingering chart is same like a soprano recorder.
