INTRODUCTION & ASSEMBLY
The MA-511 Mortising Attachment converts your drill press into an acurate mortising
machine. It includes a chisel holder, fence, two plastic bushings, hold down arms and
bracket and four chisels and bits with sizes ranging from 1/4” to 5/8”.
AssEmBlY
important:
There are two different plastic bushings supplied with this mortising
attachment. These bushings serve as spacers depending on the quill diameter of your
drill press. These bushings were designed to fit KING CANADA drill presses models
KC-116C(FC) and KC-117C(FC). This mortising attachment also fits our KC-118FC and
no bushing is needed for installation.
mounting chisel holder on quill (Fig.1)
1. Choose the correct split-ring bushing for
your drill press. Position the split-ring
bushing (1) in the chisel holder (2) with the
flange of the bushing against the top of the
chisel holder. (No bushing is needed for
installation on our KC-118FC). Align the
slot in the bushing with the gap in the
chisel holder.
2. Mount the chisel holder (2) over the base of
the drill press quill. Make sure that the slot
in the bushing is still aligned with gap in the
chisel holder.
3. Secure the chisel holder using the hex. bolt
(3) and the hex. nut (4).
4. Insert the bit (5) through the chisel (6) and
into the chuck (7). Position the chisel with a
1/32” gap (8) between the top of the chisel
and the chisel holder. Tighten the knob (9)
to hold the chisel in place. Position the
chisel with the bit slot (10) facing to the left or right of the drill press.
5. Push the bit (5) up until the bit is against the chisel. Secure the bit in the chuck.
6. Loosen the knob (9) holding the chisel. Push the chisel up against the chisel holder
eliminating the 1/32” gap (8). Tighten the knob (9).
NOTE: Installing the bit and chisel following steps 4 through 6 will provide the proper
clearance between the cutting lips of the bit and points of the chisel. Always store
chisels and bits when not in use to protect them from damage.
