When reading from a disc, sounds come from the drive:
NOTE: While initializing and accessing data, your CD-ROM drive will make
some intermittent sounds. This is normal.
• Remove the disc and, if necessary, clean it.
• Make sure that the CD-ROM disc is seated correctly on the tray.
CD audio is working, but data isn’t:
• Make sure the CD-ROM drive’s IDE ribbon cable is properly seated.
• Examine the cable to confirm the red stripe is properly aligned with
“Pin 1” on all connections.
The drive does not work or isn’t being recognized by the computer:
• While your computer is powered up, press the CD-ROM drive’s eject button to
check if the tray will open. If it does not open, check the power plug to verify it is
securely seated or try using a different power cable than your original choice.
• Examine the MASTER/SLAVE/CSEL settings and change if necessary
(as discussed in Sections 2 & 3).
• If you are using Windows® 95, check your CONFIG.SYS file for
LASTDRIVE=statement. If one exists, make sure the letter is toward the end of
the alphabet. For example, change it to LASTDRIVE=R.
• It may be necessary to remove references to old DOS CD-ROM driver files that
may be listed in your autoexec.bat and config.sys files that pertain to a previous
CD-ROM driver installation.
Getting error: Not enough drive letters available:
You must edit your CONFIG.SYS file. This should be located in the root directory
of your hard drive. From a DOS prompt, type the command ‘EDIT CONFIG.SYS’
(no quotations). Once in the editor, either change the LASTDRIVE=statement or
add a “LASTDRIVE” statement with a higher drive letter.
