PREPARATION
VACUUM / SOLUTION HOSE ASSEMBLY (FIG. 3,4)
This machine uses a vacuum / solution hose assembly with a wand attachment.
To assemble, connect one end of the vacuum hose to the tank lid by pushing it
on. The solution line male fitting connects to the coupling at the rear of the
machine on the base. Slide the knurled collar on the female fitting back. Push the
hose’s male fitting in, and release the knurled collar until it snaps back. The other
end of the vacuum / solution hose assembly attaches to the wand assembly in
the same way.
NOTE: *IMPORTANT* FOR MODEL KX-17THP
Only use wand attachments and accessories that are rated for 200 PSI or more.
Failure to do so could result in damage to machine, attachment, accessory, or
surface being cleaned. Included with your machine is a high pressure nozzle.
Use this nozzle with attachments to provide correct solution flow, pressure, and
avoid overwetting carpet.
ADDING SOLUTION (FIGURE 5)
WARNING!
DISCONNECT THE POWER CORD FROM THE ELECTRICAL
OUTLET BEFORE ADDING SOLUTION.
Be sure the drain valve is closed. Lift lid into the upright position and pour clean
solution into the front of the tank as directed by the “Solution” arrow to the fill line.
DO NOT pour clean solution into the recovery bladder.
CAUTION!
Solution temperature must not exceed 170°F (76°C). Use non-
foaming chemicals or defoamer and be sure to use the correct
dilution ratios.
PUMP PRIMING (FIGURE 6)
KX-17THP Model only - Prime the pump system by connecting the drain hose,
which is the 4 foot long solution hose with a connection on one end, to the quick-
disconnect at the back of the machine and place the open end of the hose in the
solution tank. Turn on the pump, thereby recirculating the clean water through
the drain hose back into the solution tank. When there is a steady stream of
water running through the drain hose the pump is primed (usually 2-3
minutes).Turn off the pump and disconnect the priming hose and attach the
solution hose.
NOTE:
The pump rarely needs to be primed after the first time. If the solution
tank is allowed to run low, which results in the pump drawing air, then the pump
may need to be primed again. Erratic pressure fluctions indicates air in the lines
and means that the pump needs priming.
CONTROLS
VACUUM SWITCH (FIGURE 7)
Turns the vacuum motor on to pick up solution with the recovery nozzle and
collects it in the recovery bladder.
‘O’ is “OFF” and ‘I’ is “ON”.
PUMP SWITCH (FIGURE 7)
Turn the pump on to pump solution from the tank, through the spray nozzle to
the floor.
‘O’ is “OFF” and ‘I’ is “ON”.
OPERATION
Before each use, check the solution tank filter (Figure 8), vacuum lint filter
(Figure 9), recovery nozzle, and spray nozzle for lodged debris. After filling the
tank with solution, plug the power cord into a grounded outlet. Turn on the
vacuum and solution switches.
CAUTION!
Do not allow water or foam to overflow and enter the vacuum tube
on the recovery bladder. If this happens immediately shut off the
vacuum motor, unplug the machine and contact an authorized
service center.
CLEANING CARPET
Slowly pull the tool towards you with the solution valve trigger engaged, then
make a pass forward and backward with the vacuum only (no spray) over the
cleaned area to remove as much dirt and solution as possible. Make overlapping
passes to prevent streaking.
CAUTION!
If foam appears on vacuum lid, turn the VACUUM SWITCH OFF
IMMEDIATELY. Add more defoamer to the recovery bladder.
NOTE: DO NOT OVERWET CARPET!
If the carpet is heavily soiled, squeeze solution valve lever on the forward pass
and backward pass, allowing cleaning solution a few seconds longer to work
prior to vacuuming. Another method is to raise the wand 8" above the carpet and
pre-spray lightly prior to cleaning passes. On extremely soiled carpets, it is
recommended the use of a pre-spray solution.
