machine for damage. If damage is evident, save the shipping carton so that it can
be inspected. Contact the Kent Customer Service Department immediately to file
a freight damage claim.
OPERATION
CONTROLS (FIGURE 1)
The main power switch is located on the rear of machine, below the control bar.
Flip the toggle switch up to turn machine on, and down to turn main power off.
When main power is on, the vacuum motors are running.
“I”=ON, “O”=OFF
BRUSH POWER (FIGURE 2)
To turn brush roll on, grab the handle grips and trigger bar and squeeze. To stop
the brush, release the trigger bar. The brush will not turn on unless the main
power switch is ON and the trigger bar is squeezed.
CORD STORAGE (FIGURE 3)
The top cord hook rotates, to quickly release the cord for use.
HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT (FIGURE 4)
There are eight rug height adjustment settings. These are indicated on the knob
located on the right side of the machine. To ease adjustment, tilt the machine
back slightly. To raise, turn the knob clockwise. To lower, turn counterclockwise.
Correct height is when the machine, after set in motion, propels smoothly without
pulling the operator.
EMPTYING DUST BAG (FIGURE 5)
The cloth bag should be emptied frequently for maximum performance. Turn the
main power switch off. Open the front door by turning the door latch counterclock-
wise, and pull. Slide the bag off the inlet, fold top of bag over to keep dirt from
falling out. Slide clip off bottom of bag, and dump contents into a waste container.
Shake vigorously several times. Reinstall clip, and bag in machine.
CLEAN UP AND STORAGE
Store the machine in a cool dry place. Wind the extension cord in a circle and
hang on the cord hook provided on the machine. Be sure not to wind the cord
tighter than necessary.
Avoid prolonged exposure of machine to freezing temperatures during storage
or transporting.
MAINTENANCE
WARNING!
BEFORE ANY SERVICING TO AVOID POSSIBLE INJURY OR
ELECTRIC SHOCK, DISCONNECT THE POWER CORD FROM
THE ELECTRICAL OUTLET.
LINT FILTERS (FIGURE 6)
Open front door and remove foam filter from bottom of dust bag chamber. Pull
off lint filters from top of vacuum motors. To clean, shake filters or tap lightly on
a hard surface. Reinstall filters on motors and replace foam filter.
BRUSH ROLL BELT (FIGURE 7)
CAUTION!
Belt pulleys can become hot during normal use. To prevent burns,
avoid touching the belt pulley when servicing the drive belt.
The belt should be checked regularly to be sure it is in good condition. Remove
the two bolts from the rear of the dust bag chamber. Close door and tilt entire top
section of machine forward until it rests on the floor.
Tighten belt by turning the adjustment nut behind the motor base clockwise until
there is enough belt tension to prevent slipping. Tilt upper section back to its
upright position, and replace bolts in dust bag chamber. Replace belt if showing
signs of wear.
NOTE: Overtightening belt can cause premature failure of brush and motor
bearings.
ADJUSTING FOR BRUSH WEAR (FIGURE 8)
NOTE: Cut away any hair or thread wound around the brush roll or the belt pulley
because the buildup could cause the belt to rotate unevenly.
When brush shows signs of wear, the brush bearing housings can be rotated to
a second mounting position.
Loosen brush roll belt (See above). Tilt entire machine back on handle, remove
the ten screws and bottom plate. Remove belt from brush pulley, then pull brush
roll from machine. Rotate Brush Bearing Housings to “worn brush position”, to
move the brush closer to the floor. Reinstall brush with rotated housings into
machine.
If housings are in worn position when brush is removed and more brush to floor
contact is desired, the brush must be replaced. When installing a new brush, be
sure the bearing housings are positioned for a new brush, or damage to floor or
machine will occur.
