More than just dehydrating
Fruit, Vegetable, and Yogurt Rolls
Dried fruit, vegetable, or yogurt purees are a simple alternative when you feel like having
a tasty healthy snack. Leftover yogurt, fruit, or vegetables can be pureed, sweetened, and
seasoned and prepared to make a nutritious, energising snack. Spread the pureed fruit or
vegetables thinly on Teflex Drying Sheets (page 5) or baking parchment. By dehydration,
the puree turns into a firm mass. It is incredibly easy to make these snacks that are ideal for
on-the-go!
By spreading yogurt onto Teflex Drying Sheets and then dehydrating it, it turns into a
colourful snack reminiscent of toffee. You can produce the yogurt yourself and refine it with
pureed strawberries or peppermint extract. Cut the rolled up dehydrated yogurt into 1.25 cm
thick bits and dry them for an additional hour. The extra drying time of the yogurt seals the
bits’ edges, keeping pieces from sticking together in the container.
Vegetables can be combined with herbs and spices. A mixture of pureed tomatoes and Ita-
lian herbs can be dehydrated and later used for making tomato paste or tomato sauce. Dried
gazpacho puree with tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, green peppers, and herbs is a delicious
low-calorie snack!
Dehydrating Animal Products
Eggs
Place the undamaged egg yolk either carefully onto kitchen roll or into half of an egg shell
(remove the egg white first) in an egg carton on the screen (drying time: 2-3 days).
Tip:
As
soon as the yolk has hardened a bit, the egg carton can be removed and the egg shell with
the yolk inside can be placed directly onto the screen, speeding up the drying process. Unfor-
tunately, the egg white cannot be dehydrated.
Meat
Cut into max. 5 mm thick slices, against the fibres (drying time: 1-2 days). Or lay entire
pieces of meat onto the tray. After a couple of days in the dehydrator, the meat is hard, and
it is necessary to use a sharp knife to cut slices of the homemade ham.
Tip:
Avoid dehyd-
rating pieces of meat that are too fatty, because fat without salt normally used to preserve
meat can easily spoil.
Fish
