1. DESCRIPTION.
1.1 HOOD. Air System must be used in combination with a K20 model hood.
1.2 BLOWER UNIT: It is composed of an ABS case with socket and ON/OFF switch; a fan
unit actuated by an electric micro motor and an electronic air flow indicator with alarm.
1.3 HOSE ASSEMBLY
It consists of a spiraled hose enclosed by smooth plastic for easy decontamination.
1.4 BATTERY ASSEMBLIES:
LI-870: the pack consists of rechargeable lithium batteries in a sealed ABS housing
with non reversible plug; a circuit protection against short-circuits and over-discharge.
1.5 FILTER
ZP3 FILTER: The letter “R” marked on the filter shows that the dust filter or filtering
part of a combined filter can be used for more than one working shift after exposure to
aerosols; the letters ”NR” indicate that the use is strictly limited to one working shift.
The filter is made of micro porous technical paper finely pleated with normalized EN
148-1 thread ( see filter use instruction).

OPERATION
The blower unit, powered by rechargeable battery, takes in air through the filters and sends
it, via hose, to the inside of the hood. The hood goes into slight positive over pressure and
the wearer breathes filtered air only. Expired air is expelled through the diaphragm valves.
4.
USE
4.1 For respiratory protection against solid and liquid aerosols if fitted with ZP3 particle
filters.
AIR SYSTEM in combination with K20 hood is designed for the protection of the
respiratory tract, the eyes and the face of the wearer.

(*) NOTE: thanks to the class P3 filtration of the incoming air, the device protects the
wearer against COVID19 contamination. The air exhaled by the wearer flow out
without filtration through the exhalation valves on the collar: this means that if a
wearer is COVID19 infected he can contaminate the surrounding environment. To
avoid this risk, a surgical mask should be worn in addition to the cap. The ventilation
inside the hood prevents the screen from fogging up and makes wearing the PPE
more comfortable.
4.2 LIMITATIONS
a) Do not use in atmospheres immediately dangerous to life or health.
b) Do not use against gas and vapors.
c) Do not wear for protection against gases, vapours, carbon monoxide, natural gas and
fumigants.
d) Do not use for protection against fire smoke.
e) Do not use in closed environments (tanks, silos etc.).
f) Do not use in atmospheres containing less than 17% oxygen.
g) Do not use in explosive atmospheres.
h) Do not use for protection against harmful dust where the concentration in the atmosphere
exceeds 500 times the TLV.
i) Do not use in environments with concentrations lower than 500 times the TLV when said
concentrations produce situations immediately dangerous to life and health.

USE INSTRUCTIONS
5.1 BATTERY CHARGING:
Charging of the rechargeable Lithium battery must be done exclusively with the
KASCO LI-02 battery charger (see use instructions packed with the respirator).
Recharge time: about 3 hours
RECHARGE THE BATTERY AFTER EACH USE.
5.2 PREPARING THE RESPIRATOR:
5.2.1 BLOWER UNIT:
a) Slip the belt through the battery and blower hook .
b) Connect the battery to the blower with the cord and screw tight to make contact.
c) Make sure that the unit is ON and running properly.
d) Make sure that the filter gasket is properly inserted into the filter housing.
5.2.2 FILTERS:
a) Before using the filter for the first time check the expiry date to make sure the filters
have not expired; check that the seals are intact and that the filters are the proper
ones for the respirator model in use. Take care not to confuse the markings on the
filters with those of other standards which classify this RPD according to EN
12941:98+A1/03+A2/08.
b) Remove covers and/or seals and screw the EN148-1 threaded end of the filter onto
the respirator. Read the filter use instructions.
5.3
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE USE AND CHECKING OF AIRFLOW
INDICATORS:
a) Check that the exhalation valves are working properly in order to prevent distorted
readings.
b) Check that the battery is fully charged and that the filters are correctly fitted.
c) The checking operations hereunder are NOT to be intended as battery capacity
and duration checking operations.
d) The indicators allows you to check whether the respirator is functioning properly in
an upright position taking filter exhaustion, battery charge level, blower status, leak
tightness and proper collar and flip-up visor( when applicable) closure into account.
Should you need to work in a bent or prone position, return to an upright position
and recheck the airflow if it should decrease .
e) The indicators are not universal airflow measuring instruments therefore their
readings are valid only for the respirators for which they have been designed and
approved.
5.3.1 AUDIBLE ALARM AIRFLOW INDICATOR: CHECKING INSTRUCTIONS:
a) Make sure that the indicator is positioned upright.
b) Start the blower unit . The indicator will emit an audible signal for a few seconds
until the blower motor picks up speed.
c) N.B: The audible signal will be repeated for a few seconds when the blower is
switched off and the motor unit slows down.
d) If the audible signal persists troubleshoot by checking whether: the battery is
charged, the filters are blocked/exhausted, the blower unit is supplying the proper
airflow, there are obstacle in the helmet or the breathing tube which are hindering
the flow of air.
5.4 DONNING INSTRUCTIONS:
a) Fit belt, with blower unit and filters already attached on the left and battery on the
right, around waist.
b) Connect breathing tube to the blower unit and power on the blower unit.
c) Don hood (in a fresh air environment only) and tighten collar drawstring around
neck by pressing the button. The drawstring should be pulled as close as possible
round neck to ensure maximum closure but it should at all times feel comfortable and
not restrict breathing. Any garment used to protect the worker’s neck should adhere
as much as possible around the neck in order to avoid possible folds of the fabric
which could interfere with the proper closure.

MAINTENANCE
6.1
HOOD:
a)
Clean hood with organic solvent free detergent or with soapy water only.
b)
Clean visor with soapy water.
6.2 BLOWER UNIT:
a) The motor does not require servicing.
b) Clean unit with organic solvent free detergents or with a cloth dipped into a 50%
water/ ethyl alcohol solution.
6.3 BATTERY:
a) The battery does not require servicing or tipping-up.
b) RECHARGE IMMEDIALETELY AFTER USE FOR MAXIMUM BATTERY
EFFICIENCY .
c) DO NOT KEEP THE BATTERIES DISCHARGED. IN CASE OF DEFAULT CHECK
THE VOLTAGE. BATTERIES ARE EQUIPPED WITH A PROTECTION CIRCUIT
THAT CUTS THE POWER OFF IN CASE OF CURRENT OVERLOAD.
d)
If you plan to store the battery for long periods of time make sure it is at least 50%
charged before storage. Do not keep the battery completely discharged for longer
than six months.
6.4 FILTERS:
a) If sealed, the filters remain unaltered until the expiry date shown on them.
b) Unsealed filters have to be replaced every three months, regardless of the amount
of hours worked. It is advisable to write the date on which the filter was opened on
the filter itself.
c) Filters cannot be washed, blown out or restored. When exhausted they must be
disposed of.
d) Replace both filters simultaneously.
The respirator is to be serviced at least once a year by KASCO or Kasco a authorised
service centre.
6.5 PPE DISINFECTION AGAINST COVID19:
Spray a solution of:
- 70% ethyl alcohol, or
- 0.5% sodium hypochlorite (equivalent to 5000 ppm)

Do not use the respirator in the conditions listed at point 4.2.
Do not use if for any reason the air flow check has not been carried out (see point
5.3) and /or if the indicator shows a low airflow (see specifications).
7.7
Do not immerse the control unit in water for any cleaning operations without having
sealed the delivery and suction with the appropriate caps.
7.8
Do not expose battery to heat sources of over 55°C.
Do not short the terminals.
Do not place battery on or near equipment which vibrates excessively.
In case of battery leakage wash all parts which have come into contact with leaked
liquid immediately.
Do not expose battery to infrared or ultraviolet rays excessively.
Do not pierce, crush, disassemble or open the battery as leaked liquid could catch
fire, explode or release dangerous substances.
Keep the battery charger connected to the battery only if the charger is powered.
The battery charges correctly if charging is carried out at a temperature between
0°C and 40°C.

Do not use expired filters even if their seals are still intact.
Do not use filters for more than three months.
7.10 Return to fresh, clean air immediately and take OFF hood if:
a) Leakage is detected by smell, taste or eye, nose or throat irritation.
b) Inhaled air becomes extremely hot.
c) Any feeling of nausea, dizziness or ill being develops.
7.11 THE RESPIRATOR WILL NOT FURNISH BREATHING PROTECTION UNLESS
BLOWER UNITS WHICH DRAW IN AIR THROUGH THE FILTER/S ARE
FUNCTIONING. OXYGEN WILL BE ABSORBED RAPIDLY AND THE CARBON
DIOXYDE CONCENTRATION PRODUCED WITH BREATHING WOULD EXCEED
THE TLV LIMITS.
7.12 Never alter or modify this respirator in any way.
7.13 The airflow indicator gives correct readings when it is used in an upright position and
any reading given at a position dif/- 15° from the upright position is not to be
considered realistic. The indicator is supplied to check the airflow; it is not suitable to
check the capacity or the running time of the battery.
