8.2. Registering in USA
A pre-printed form with your EPIRB’s identity is supplied with your beacon.
Complete details of your vessel and provide some contact numbers. When you
have completed the form, you can choose to fax or mail it at:
USA SARSAT Beacon Registration
E/SP3, RM 3320, FB-4,NOAA/NESDIS, 5200 Auth Rd. Suitland, MD 20746-4304
Tel 888 212 7283 Fax 301 568 8649
Registration is also available online at: www.beaconregistration.noaa.gov
It is usual to receive confirmation when you register. In the USA you will also
receive a "Decal" sticker which you must fit the EPIRB itself on the lower part of
the beacon (battery pack housing).
Not having a Decal is an offence. Failure to register leads to monetary forfeit.
8.3. Radio License in USA
As radio transmitter, an EPIRB must be added to your radio license. If you have
been allocated a radio call sign, then you already have a radio license for your VHF or MF radio. You should update
your license to include your EPIRB. For further details see your license or fill a FCC Form 605 which is used to apply
for a vessel’s Ship Station License. This form, with the applicable filling fees, should be submitted to:
Federal Communications Commission
Marine Ship Service P.O. Box 358275 Pittsburgh, PA 15251-5275
Tel: 888 225 5322
Form 605 is available on:
http://www.fcc.gov/Forms/Form605/
8.4. Registering in Canada
To be effective, a 406 MHz EPIRB must be registered with the Canadian Beacon Registry. Registration information
is available at:
http://www.nss.gc.ca/site/cospas-sarsat/emergencyBeacon_e.asp
8.5. Radio License in Canada
Industry Canada has exempted Canadian vessels that are not operated in the territorial waters of another country
from the requirement for a station licence. For more information, please refer to:
