immediately after power supply and will support it for an hour, but if during this hour the modem does not run
into the word "ENDLINK" in the data flow, it will disable internet connection and switch to the offline mode. Next
connections are to be established at 1:30; 11:30; 21:30; 7:30, etc.
If power is switched off and resupplied, for example, at 20:10, report on establishing internet connection is
made from this time, i.e. the first connection is enabled immediately after supplying power, and the next one
–
at 6:10; 16:10, etc.
4.5. Updating Embedded Software (Firmware)
The modem can use two firmwares of various types to operate. First type
– the factory firmware installed by
the manufacturer and is no longer changed. Second type
– a firmware which you can update via ATM Control
(hereinafter referred to as updatable firmware). The factory firmware is always installed on the modem. If the
firmware fails to update, the modem switches to the operation with the factory firmware. When the modem has
a successfully installed updatable firmware, the modem will always boot up with it.
When the modem operates with the updatable firmware and receives a request for the next updating, the
modem switches to operation with the factory firmware, after that deletes an old version of the updatable firm-
ware and loads a new one. After a successful firmware loading, the modem operates with a new version of the
updatable firmware.
The firmware version can be found in the log via any terminal program or in the ATM Control Configuration
Utility (the
Device
tab). The first two digits in the version number stand for the firmware type used by the mo-
dem: 01
– factory firmware, 02 – updatable firmware. The next two digits in the version number is a sequence
number of the firmware version. For example, 01-02
– a factory firmware of the second version, 02-03 – an up-
datable firmware of the third version.
The ATM modem is provided with a hard reset button (see Fig. 2.3). This function may be required if the op-
eration of the updatable firmware has had a failure, preventing its updating and the modem switch to the factory
firmware. In this case it is required to perform a hard reset, and update the firmware (updatable) which caused
the failure using the ATM Control utility.
To implement a hard reset, power off the modem, press the button using a thin object, and holding the button
apply power to the modem. After supplying power, release the button.
The modem firmware can be updated both locally by connecting it to a computer
– via the ATM Control con-
figuration utility, and remotely (when using the iRZ Collector solution)
– via the iRZ Collector dispatching appli-
cation. Remote firmware updating is supported if you use the iRZ Collector solution in your data collection and
device management system.
