3) Use a USB 3.0 or eSATA adapter card
USB 3.0 and eSATA PCIe adapter cards are available from many manufacturers. These low-cost cards
generally provide multiple ports and add connectivity and features to the system. The PCIe interface
speed is often less than the speed of the sum of all ports on the card. Live, playback and export
performance may be affected when multiple recorders are connected to a card. A list of
recommended eSATA adapter cards can be found in section 5.4 below.
4) Use a multi-port eSATA host bus adapter
To connect multiple (e.g. four or more) recorders to a single PC with a dedicated-bandwidth
connection for each device, a host bus adapter (HBA) with a multi-port interface is necessary. These
HBAs use a multi-lane SFF-8088 connector (see Figure 24) that requires an adapter cable (see Figure
25). Most HBAs have high-speed interfaces (e.g. PCIe x8), so be sure the Control PC has an
appropriate expansion slot available.
IO Industries can provide an 8-port (P/N COREDMHBA8) or a 16-port (P/N COREDMHBA16) HBA to
connect multiple recorders to a single workstation. Adapter cables are also available.
