Backing up the configuration information to a floppy

Backing up the configuration to floppy allows the configuration to be restored if it is lost.  This is useful if for some
reason the RAID card fails.  A new card can be installed and the configuration loaded.  Without the configuration,
the exact configuration must be re-created with the DACCF utility or the data on the RAID array will be unreadable.

1.

 

From the main menu of DACCF, choose <

07.  Tools

>.  The program will respond:  “Starting drive(s)  Please

wait.”

From the Tools menu choose <

Backup

/

Restore

 

configuration

>.

3.

 

At the caution prompt press any key to continue.

4.

 

At the “Backup/Restore Configuration” prompt, choose <

Backup

 

Configuration

>.

5.

 

Insert a blank formatted floppy and enter the filename at the prompt:  

a:\filename

.  Where “filename” is the

name of the configuration file.  Example:  

a:\RaidConf 

to save to the “A” drive with the filename

“Raidconf”

6.

 

At the warning:  “Existing File, if any will be overwritten!” choose <

YES

>.  The program will respond with

“Saving Configuration to a file.” And then “Configuration saved to a file.  Press any key to continue.”

Press any key, then <

ESC

>

It is advisable to make a second copy of the configuration information also.  One copy can be taken off site and
the other taped into the server chassis to ensure it will be available if needed.

Proceed to the next section: Initializing the RAID array to prepare the drives for use.

From the main menu choose <

05.  Initialize System Drive

From the “Initialize System Drive” menu choose <

1.  Select System Drive

Arrow over one of the created system drives and select <

ENTER

> on it. A check will appear to it.  If there are

additional system drives that have been created which you would like to initialize select them also.

4.

 

Select <

ESC

> to return to the “Initialize System Drive” menu.

2.  Start Initialization

>

6.

 

At the prompt:  “Do you want to proceed with initialization?” select <

YES

>

7.

 

The initialization process will take awhile, dependent on the capacity of the drives in use.  After the
initialization is complete, select any key (as prompted) to save the configuration.

Exiting the DACCF utility software.

1.

 

At the main menu select <

ESC

> to exit the software.

2.

 

The program will prompt you to make sure that you have made a backup of the configuration and ask you if you
really want to exit.  Choose <

YES

>.

3.

 

Remove the floppy from the “A” drive.

4.

 

Power off the system.

5.

 

The system is now ready to have the operating system installed on the RAID system drive.
