If transferring the fallen patient to a wheelchair:
The HFL is designed for the seat to stop in the up position, twenty one inches from the
floor. This height just exceeds the standard height of wheelchair seats to allow for a
gravity assisted transfer. Most wheelchairs will roll right up to the HFL seat on the most
convenient side.
•
Raise the seated patient until the HFL stops.
•
Determine which side is preferred for the transfer.
•
Remove the Rise-Assist Handle on the appropriate side by pulling on the spring-loaded
handle-release knob and gently pulling the handle from its normal position.
•
Temporarily place the Rise-Assist Handle in a safe location (i.e., where it will not interfere
with the moving of the patient into the wheelchair).
•
Position the wheelchair near the HFL, ensuring there is adequate room for the patient’s legs
during the transfer, then engage the wheelchair’s brake before the next step.
Direct transfer to a wheelchair
•
Have the patient scoot themselves from the HFL’s seat to a fully seated position in the
wheelchair. NOTE: Be prepared to assist the patient as they transfer from the HFL to the
wheelchair, if needed.
•
Disengage the wheelchair’s brake, move patient away from HFL seat, then replace the
Rise-Assist Handle on the appropriate side by pulling on the spring-loaded handle-
release knob and gently pushing the handle into its normal position.
Return the seat to the fully downward (home) position before returning the HFL to its storage
location.
NOTES:
Ensure there are no foreign objects beneath the unit
before
lowering the seat. When you
arrive at the storage location, remember to ensure there are no foreign objects beneath the unit
before
tilting it back into the upright (storage) position.
