How do I use my infrared port as a communications port?
Your ThinkPad's infrared port may be disabled in order to free resources for another
communications device such as the serial port. If it is disabled, you need to enable it
before you use it. To check and enable your infrared port, do as follows:

Start the ThinkPad Configuration program.

Click on the Infrared button.

Click on Enable.
A “Warning” window might appear and show the message that the hardware
resource is in use by another communications device.

Click on Disable Device.
A “Warning” window will prompt you to restart your computer.

Click on OK; then the computer restarts.
Be sure to save work and quit other programs before you restart your computer.
Note:
If you check your infrared port and it is already enabled, you should be able to
use it immediately without changing any settings.
After your infrared port is enabled, you should be able to use it as a communications
port. If it does not work properly, you might have a problem with the communication
software application on your system or the device that you are trying to communicate
with. Check the on-line help system for your communications software other device
appear to be working properly.
