Touch the static-protective package that contains the ServeRAID M5016 SAS/SATA controller to any
unpainted surface on the outside of the server; then, grasp the controller by the top edge or upper
corners and remove it from the package and inspect it for damage. Contact your IBM marketing
representative or authorized reseller if the ServeRAID M5016 SAS/SATA controller appears to be
damaged.

Connect the signal cable that is attached to the drive backplane for drive bays 0 through 3 to
controller port 0. Connect the other signal cable that is attached to the drive backplane for drive bays
4 through 7 to controller port 1.

Connect one end of the power module cable to the power module connector on the flash.

Align the edge connector on the adapter with the connector on PCI riser-card assembly 2; then,
insert the adapter into PCI riser-card assembly 2. Press the edge of the connector
firmly
into the
riser-card assembly. Make sure that the adapter snaps into the riser-card assembly securely.

Attention:
When you install the ServeRAID M5016 SAS/SATA controller, make sure that the
adapter is correctly seated in the PCI riser-card assembly and that the riser-card assembly is securely
seated in the PCI riser-card connector on the system board before you turn on the server. An
incorrectly seated adapter might cause damage to the system board, the riser-card assembly, or the
adapter.
