Four 10 GbE SFP+ ports are located on the front panel. These ports accept
approved optical or copper SFP, SFP+, or QSFP+ transceivers . Transceivers must
be purchased separately.

QSFP+ ports
Four 40 GbE QSFP+ ports are located on the front panel. These ports accept
supported optical QSFP+ transceivers or DACs. The supported transceivers
interoperate with any 40 GBASE-SR4 compliant device, and support distances up
to 100 meters on OM3 fiber. Transceivers must be purchased separately.
QSFP+ ports allow you to make one 40 GbE connection, or four 10 GbE
connections, using a breakout cable, as follows:

QSFP+ optical transceiver with MTP-to-4 LC (SFP+) fiber breakout cable. This
option supports only BLADE 10 GBASE-SR SFP+ transceivers. The 40
GBASE-SR4 specification (802.3ba-2010) indicates a higher optical power level
than standard 10 GBASE-SR. BLADE SFP+ SR transceivers can handle the
higher optical power levels.

QSFP+ to four 10 GbE SFP+ breakout DAC. The SFP+ connectors on supported
breakout DACs are labelled A, B, C, and D, which correspond to the first,
second, third, and fourth ports in the port range.

Fiber Channel over Ethernet ports
FCoE Internal and external ports include:

Support for 640 Gb full duplex throughput ports arranged as fourty-two 10 Gb
FCoE ports down and 12 SFP+ Omniports, two 10 Gb SFP+ports and two 40 Gb
QSFP+ ports up.

Each OmniPort is capable of running in 10 Gb/1 Gb ETH mode or 2/4/8 Gb Fiber
Channel (FC) mode with auto-negotiation capability.

Support for Converged Enhanced Ethernet (CEE) and FCoE over all Ethernet
ports including OmniPorts (in ETH mode).
v
Support for the FCF (Fiber Channel Forwarding) gateway feature, FC fabric
services, NPIV N_Port, F_Port, and E_port, VE_port, VF_port and VN_port.

Support for full fabric FC services including Name server, hardware-based
Zoning.
v
Support for IBM vNIC (virtual network interface card) Virtual Fabric Adapter with
SR-IOV capability.

Support for single (14 down ports), dual (28 down ports), or triple (42 down ports)
configuration capability. The 10 Gb Ethernet switch supports an entry 14x10
Layer 2 and Layer 3 switch and updates to 28x16 Layer 2, Layer 3 and 42x22
Layer 2, Layer 3 configurations. The base configuration, 14x10, can be updated
to 28x16 or 42x22 using additionally purchased software keys.

Support for stacking of up to eight switch units distributed across multiple
chassis. When the switch port is in Ethernet mode it provides full Ethernet
stacking support including stacking support for FCoE transit switch features.

Support FCoE/FC software and hardware that allows I/O consolidation at the
server, connectivity to FC Storage Area Network (SAN) and FC storage devices
directly, and End-End FCoE.
