The J02M Services Router is an Ethernet-optimized edge router that provides both
switching and carrier-class Ethernet routing. The IBM Ethernet Router J02M has a
capacity of up to 120 gigabits per second (Gbps), full duplex. The IBM Ethernet Router
J02M enables a wide range of business and residential applications and services,
including high-speed transport and VPN services, next-generation broadband multiplay
services, and high-volume Internet data center internetworking.
The IBM Ethernet Router J02M is five rack units (U) tall. Several routers can be stacked
in a single floor-to-ceiling open rack, for increased port density per unit of floor space.
The router provides two dedicated slots for either two Dense Port Concentrators
(DPCs) or one Flexible PIC Concentrator (FPC). An FPC supports up to two Physical
Interface Cards (PICs). The router also provides one dedicated slot for a Switch Control
Board (SCB), and one multifunction slot for either one DPC or one SCB. Optionally,
an FPC can be installed in both the multifunction slot and lowest dedicated DPC slot.

The J02M chassis provides redundancy and resiliency. The hardware system is fully
redundant, including power supplies, Routing Engines, and SCBs.
The router is shipped in a cardboard box strapped securely to a wooden pallet. Plastic
straps secure the top and bottom in place. The router chassis is bolted to this pallet.
Quick Start installation instructions and a cardboard accessory box are also included
in the shipping container.
