partitions are spread across the multidimensional partition, and one .mdc file is
added to hold the PowerCube metadata. For example if you have 100,000 input
records and set the
MultiFileCubeThreshold
value to 20,000, a maximum of 5 .mdp
files and one .mdc file are created, depending on the partitioning in the model.
The .mdp files vary in size depending on the size of the partition, but each file
cannot exceed 2 GB. Unused or empty .mdp files are deleted at the end of a cube
build.

Recovering a Failed Model
To help you recover from power failures or similar processing interruptions
without having to recreate the entire cube, Cognos Transformer adds checkpoint
entries after each major stage in the cube creation process.
These checkpoints are written to a temporary .qy? file in the folder specified by
Model temporary files
on the
Directories
tab of the
Preferences
property sheet.
The .qy? file is deleted when processes end normally; as a result, the existence of a
.qy? file indicates that Cognos Transformer terminated unexpectedly.
The next time you start Cognos Transformer, you will be asked if you want to see
the list of suspended models. You can either open the model at the last checkpoint
before failure and continue to develop it from that point, or continue from the
point where you last saved the file. The .qy? file is deleted.
Cognos Transformer also writes messages to a log file which is stored in the
location specified on the
Directories
tab of the
Preferences
property sheet. The log
file has the same name as your model, with a .log extension. If Cognos
Transformer is unable to recover automatically from the processing failure, or if
you choose to ignore previous processing and begin again, you can read the log
file to find and correct the cause of the failure.
Note:
Recovery from a checkpoint file is not supported if auto-partitioning is
enabled.
Recovering a Failed Model Using the User Interface
Use these steps to recover a failed model in the Windows interface.
Procedure
1.
From the
File
menu, click
View Suspended Models
.
Note:
If a severe error occurred during processing that caused Cognos
Transformer to shut down, you are prompted to open the
Select Suspended
Model
dialog box when you next start Cognos Transformer.
2.
Select the option to open a model, and click
OK
.
Recovering a Failed Model Using the Command Line
Use these steps to recover a failed model on UNIX or Linux operating systems
