4 Installation
4.1 Process connection
Caution!
To avoid the damage of the Flow Switch or the installation the following require-ments must
be fulfilled under any circumstances:
- A suitable process connection has to be provided
- Connection size to be checked
- Thread depth to be checked
- Suitable sealing material to be used (liquid sealing material will damage the Flow Switch if
it gets inside)
- Professional sealing
- The switch unit must be inserted into the mounting rail and than fixed with two screws.
4.2 Mechanical installation
The switch unit must be installed in that way, that the connecting cable can’t be pinched, scoured
or otherwise being damaged and must not be brought in contact with parts which exceed the
temperature of +75°C (at T6) or +90°C (at T5).
The mounting of the switch unit onto devices which are fitted into a process line with severe
vibration should be avoided, because this could cause operating trouble (loosen of fixing screws,
incorrect switch point, cable failure).
If for example the flow meter with the switch unit is removed from the process line, make certain,
that no medium gets in contact with the switch housing and/or connecting cable.
4.3 Ambient conditions

The Flow Switch must not be used as a supporting part in a pipe construction.
- The medium must not contain any solid particles. Magnetic particles will accumulate at the
magnetic float and affect the function.
- Before employment of anti-freeze and anti-corrosive check compatibility.
Warning!
The following requirements must be adhered to, otherwise the function of the Flow Switch
will be affected or the measuring results will be falsified:
- External magnetic fields will influence the switch contact. Keep sufficient distance to magnetic
fields (e.g. Electric motors).
- Piping, process connections or supports made from ferromagnetic material influence the
magnetic field of the Flow Switch. Keep a space of 100 mm to those materials (e.g. steel).
- The accuracy is influenced by cross-section changes, branches or elbows in the piping. Provide
a straightening section of 10 x DN upstream and 5 x DN downstream of the instrument. Never
reduce the pipe diameter direct ahead of the instrument.
- With liquids ensure through suitable steps the de-aeration of the instrument.
