1 General

The Flow Switch series HFS 2500 prove them self through reliability and simple handling.
They are maintenance-free and should operate perfectly when used according to the specifications
(see Technical Data). If faults do nonetheless arise, please contact
HYDAC Service . Interference
by anyone other than HYDAC personnel will cause all warranty claims to become null and void.
To use the advantages of the instrument to the full extent, please take notice of the following:
Every person, in charge of commissioning and operating this instrument, must have read and
understand this operating instruction and specially the safety hints!
2 Function
The instruments type HFS 2500 operates on the principle of the float type flow indicator. Through
the flowing medium a float is set in motion, whose integrated magnets create a magnetic field. The
position of the float is detected with the switch contact. Additionally the actual flow rate can be read
from the side mounted indicator, which is available as an option.
The float is reseted to the starting point by means of a spring, which allows the installation in any
position in a system. The instruments are adjusted for the installation with flow from bottom to top.
The weight of the float influences the measuring result, therefore a different mounting position will
show discrepancies to the actual flow.
3 Safety information
3.1 General hints
Before commissioning, check the instrument and any accessories supplied.
Before commissioning, please read the operating instructions. Ensure that the instrument is
suitable for your application.
The instructions contained in the operating instructions must be followed to ensure a safe
operation of the instrument. Further, the additional Legal- and safety-regulations for the individual
application must be observed. Accordingly this applies for the use of accessories as well.
If the instrument is not handled correctly, or if the operating instructions and specifications are not
adhered to, damage to property or personal injury can result.
The sensor side of the switch unit (opposite the cable entry) is fragile due to it’s function and must
be protected against mechanical damages, when removed from the flow meter.
