5.4 Changing the Engine Oil
It is recommended that you drain the engine oil while the engine is still warm since
warm oil drains quicker and more completely.
1. Place a suitable container

below the engine to catch the used oil.
2. Remove the filler cap/dipstick

, drain plug

, and washer
(d)
.
3. Allow the used oil to drain completely.
4. Install the drain plug and washer. Tighten the drain plug securely.
Note: Dispose of used engine oil in a manner that is compatible with the
environment. We suggest you take used oil in a sealed container to your local
recycling center or service station for reclamation. Do not throw it in the trash, pour
it on the ground, or pour it down a drain.
5. With the engine in a level position, fill to the outer edge of the filler hole with the
recommended oil. A cross-sectional view of the appropriate oil level

is
shown.
NOTICE:
Running the engine at a low oil level can cause engine damage.
6. Screw in the filler cap/dipstick securely.

WARNING
Most used oil contains small amounts of materials that can cause cancer and other
health problems if inhaled, ingested, or left in contact with skin for prolonged
periods of time.

Take steps to avoid inhaling or ingesting used engine oil.
 Wash skin thoroughly after exposure to used engine oil.
