
8. Replace the air filter in the opposite sequence.
To clean the air filter BG 250Petrol
WARNING:
Use approved respiratory
protection when you clean or replace the air
filter. Discard used air filters correctly. The
dust in the air filter is dangerous to your
health.
WARNING:
Do not clean the air filter
with compressed air. This causes damage to
the air filter and the risk increases that you
breathe the dangerous dust.
1. Remove the air filter, refer to
.
2. Clean the air filter housing with a brush.
3. Tap the air filter against a hard surface or use a
vacuum cleaner to remove the particles.
CAUTION:
Do not let the nozzle of
the vacuum cleaner touch the surface of
the paper filter element. Keep a small
distance. The sensitive surface of the
paper filter element becomes damaged
if objects touch it.
4. Examine the air filter for damage.
5. Discard the air filter if it is damaged.
CAUTION:
Always replace a
damaged air filter, or the dust will go into
the engine and cause engine damage.
6. Clean the foam filter with soap and water.
7. Flush the foam filter in clean water.
8. Squeeze the water from the foam filter and let it dry.
9. Lubricate the foam filter with engine oil.
10. Press a clean cloth against the filter to remove
unwanted oil.
Note:
Smoke will come out from the engine if
there is too much oil in the foam filter when the
engine starts.
11. Put the air filter cover back. Refer to
air filter (BG 250Petrol) on page 51

To examine the spark plug (BG
250Petrol)
WARNING:
Let the spark plug become
cool before you replace it.
CAUTION:
Always use a correct spark
on page 57
.
CAUTION:
Make sure that the spark
plug has the correct distance and that it is
clean from deposits.
1. Disconnect the spark plug cap, and remove dirt from
the spark plug area.
2. Remove the spark plug with a 13/16 in./21mm spark
plug wrench.

3. Examine the spark plug. Replace it if it is damaged,
if the electrode (A) is worn or if the sealing washer
(B) is in bad condition.
4. Measure the spark plug electrode gap with a feeler
gauge for wires. Make sure that the distance is

5. If it is necessary, bend the side of side electrode
carefully to correct the distance.
6. Install the spark plug carefully, by hand.
7. Tighten the spark plug with a 13/16 in./21mm spark
plug wrench to compress the washer.
a) If you install a new spark plug, tighten ½ turn
after the spark plug seats to the compressed
washer.
b) If you install the same spark plug, tighten ⅛-
¼ turn after the spark plug is against the
compressed washer.
CAUTION:
A loose spark plug
can become too hot and cause
damage to the engine. If the spark
plug is too tight, it can cause damage
to the top of the cylinder.
8. Attach the spark plug cap to the spark plug.
