Monitored port. It copies user
data to the specified reflector
port through local port
monitoring. There can be
multiple source ports.

Reflector port

It receives user data packets
through local port monitoring.

Source switch

Trunk port

It sends monitored packets to
the intermediate switch or
destination switch.

Intermediate
switch

Trunk port

It sends monitored packets to
the destination switch.

It should have two Trunk ports
configured, which connect
with switches on both sides.

Trunk port

It receives remote monitored
packets.

Destination switch

Destination port

The port that monitors remote
monitored packets.

To realize port remote management, it is necessary to define a dedicated VLAN, called

Remote-probe VLAN, on the three switches. All monitored packets are transmitted from

the source switch to the destination switch via this Remote-probe VLAN, thus packets

on remote ports of the source switch can be monitored on the destination switch. The

Remote-probe VLAN has the following features:

Port VLAN ID (PVID ) of all ports in the Remote-probe VALN cannot be

Remote-probe VLAN ID.

All ports in the Remote-probe VALN must be Trunk ports rather than Access or

Hybrid ports.

The Remote-probe VLAN cannot be a default VALN, management VLAN, Fabric

VALN or protocol VALN.

No remote source monitoring port should be in this Remote-probe VALN.

1.9.1 Prerequisites

The source switch, intermediate switch and destination switch are determined.

The source monitoring port, reflector port, destination monitoring port, and the

Remote-probe VLAN are determined.

Direction of the monitored packet is determined.
