Flashing the BMC

There are three methods to flash the BMC:

•

Linux

AlUpdate

command

•

SUMTool

•

Web GUI

6.3.1 Using a Linux command to flash the BMC

Use the

AlUpdate

command to flash the BMC from the Linux operating system:

AlUpdate -f <

bmc_image_file

> -r n

The

-r n

option specifies that the command should not preserve the current settings; the settings

are returned to the factory defaults.

This command has two phases. The first phase transfers the firmware image file to the BMC in five
parts, as shown:

Phase 2 flashes the new firmware. Progress is shown as this occurs:

The BMC reboots after the firmware update is complete:
