Before removing the heat sink, follow these steps:
1.
Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation,
turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2.
Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3.
Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then
unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
4.
Remove the bottom cover (see
).
5.
Disconnect the battery cable from the system board (see
CAUTION:
To prevent damage to internal components, be sure to disconnect the battery cable from
the system board before removing the heat sink. You do not need to remove the battery to remove the
heat sink.
6.
Remove the fans (see
Fans, left and right on page 29
).
Remove the heat sink:
1.
Remove the six Phillips M2.0×2.5 screws (1) that secure the heat sink to the system board.
NOTE:
Due to the adhesive quality of the thermal material located between the heat sink and system
board components, it may be necessary to move the heat sink from side to side to detach it.
