5. Thoroughly clean the thermal material from the surfaces of the heat sink and the system board
components each time the heat sink is removed. Replacement thermal material is included with the heat
sink and system board spare part kits. The following illustration shows the replacement thermal
material locations.
Thermal material is used on the system board (1) and heat sink (2).
Reverse this procedure to install the heat sink.
Extend cable
To remove the extend cable, use this procedure and illustration.

Before removing the extend cable, follow these steps:
1. Prepare the computer for disassembly ( Preparation for disassembly on page 29 ).
2. Remove the bottom cover ( Bottom cover on page 29 ).
3. Disconnect the battery cable from the system board (see Battery on page 30 ).
Remove the extend cable:
1. Disconnect the keyboard cable from the ZIF connector on the extend cable (1), and then move the
keyboard cable aside (2).
2. Disconnect the fingerprint reader cable from the ZIF connector on the extend cable (3).
3. Disconnect the touchpad cable from the ZIF connector on the extend cable (4).
4. Disconnect the extend cable from the ZIF connector on the system board (5).
