from the front of the chassis to the Midplane. The sLB and Router Module signals are routed
from the rear of the chassis to the midplane.
The ISR 9096 has one non-swappable board, and the ISR 9288 has three non-swappable
boards.

Chassis backplane
The sPSU and sFU-8 modules are connected to the system through the backplane, which
provides power and communication connections between the modules. It provides the
mechanical, control and electrical interface to the controllable AC/DC 48V power supplies.
It allows electric current flow up to 60A, supplies power to the midplane via a special power
harness, provides connectivity to the midplane, the Fan Unit (sFU-8), and the rear control
panel (sCTRL).
4.1.3.1 Field Replaceable Units
Following are the ISR 9XXX Field Replaceable Units (FRUs). All FRUs are hot swappable
components:
•
Fabric board – up to four redundant hot-swappable fabric boards (sFB-12), which support
the switching FAT Tree topology.
— The ISR 9096 fabric board is the sFB-4, supporting connectivity of up to 4 sLB/sRBD
modules.
— The ISR 9288 fabric board is the sFB-12, supporting connectivity of up to 12 sLB/sRBD
modules.
•
Hot-swappable line board (sLB), which includes 24 4X IB ports.
— The ISR 9096 can host up to 4 sLB-24 or sLB-8-12 or any combination thereof.
— The ISR 9288 can host up to 12 sLB-24 or sLB-8-12 or any combination thereof.
•
Management board – one or two redundant hot-swappable management (sMB) boards,
including a CPU Mezzanine
•
Router blade drawer – a mechanical and electrical interface with up to three router blades
(IPR and/or FCR) each.
— The ISR 9096 enclosure can contain up to 4 hot-swappable sRBDs.
— The ISR 9288 enclosure can contain up to 11 hot-swappable sRBDs.
•
Power supply units (PSU).
— The ISR 9096 supports up to four redundant hot-swappable PSUs.
— The ISR 9288 supports up to five redundant hot-swappable PSUs.
•
Fan units (sFU-8).
The ISR 9XXX uses conventional front to back air flow cooling. The sFU-8 is a horizontal
fan unit with 8 fans. It is used in the ISR 9XXX for cooling the fabric, line, and sMB boards.
The ISR 9288 has an additional vertical fan unit (SFU-4) with 4 fans for line board cooling.
Fan speed is dynamically controlled as a function of temperature.
LED indications on the sFU-8 and sCTRL board provide an onsite report on the operating
conditions of the air cooling system modules, and provide an alarm indicator in the event
of a high temperature condition.
4.1.4 ISR ISR 9XXX System Firmware
Each line and fabric board incorporates an InfiniBand 24-port switch device with locally attached
memory containing the firmware that controls basic functionality of the devices. This firmware
