Static and Dynamic IP Address
A
static IP address
is an IP address that is assigned to a computer by an Internet service provider to be its
permanent address on the Internet. It is normally used in the computer networks, where computers are
connected all the times. As the Internet gets more crowded, there are not enough IP numbers to go around. For
this reason, more and more ISPs are offering dynamic IP address instead. Check with your ISP if they provide you
a Static IP address. A
dynamic IP address
is a temperately IP address assigned by a DHCP (Dynamic Host
Configuration Protocol) server from a pool of IP addresses. A dynamic IP address may change every time when
you log in the network.
