IGNITION TIMING

Warm up the engine.
Stop the engine and connect a timing light to the spark plug
wire.

NOTE

Remove the timing hole cap.

Start the engine and allow it idle.

Inspect the ignition timing.
The timing is correct if the “F” mark aligns with the index mark on
the left crankcase cover.

Idle speed: 1.400 ± 100 min

-1

(rpm).

Check the “F” mark begins to move when the engine speed
reaches the advance start rpm.
At 3.000 min

-1

(rpm), the ignition timing is correct if the index

mark is between the to advance marks.

• If the engine must be running to do some work, make sure the

area is well-ventilated. Never run the engine an enclosed area.

• The exhaust contains poisonous carbon monoxide gas that

may cause loss of consciousness and lead to death.

• Read the instructions for timing light for operation.
