6.7 Side effects and complications
If you use the hair remover according to this user manual, you should not
experience any side effects or complications from usage. However, cosmetic
treatment methods such as these always contain some risk.
• If you notice side effects or complications described here or any others,
visit your doctor immediately.
Possible side effects
- During use, many users experience slight discomfort, which is usually described
as a slightly sharp feeling on the treated areas of skin. This sharp feeling usually
only lasts during use or continues afterwards for a few minutes.
• If you experience pain or anything similar which exceeds this slight
discomfort, lower the intensity of the light impulse immediately by
setting it to a lower energy setting. Stop use of the hair remover imme-
diately if you are already on the lowest energy setting (1), the pain is
increasing or if you are unsure.
- Your skin may become red after use or within the following 24 hours. This
redness should usually go away within 24 hours.
• Visit your doctor if the redness lasts for 2–3 days and does not recede
by itself.
- The treated skin becomes more sensitive by using the hair remover and
may be dry and scaly for a while.
- The treated areas of skin run the risk of hyper-pigmentation (enhanced
pigment or brown colouring) or hypo-pigmentation (turning pale). The risk
of skin pigmentation changing is higher in people with a dark skin colour
than in people with a lighter skin tone. Colouration and changes in skin
pigment usually occur temporarily, whereas permanent hyper-pigmenta-
tion or hypo-pigmentation rarely happens.
- In rare cases the treated skin can become very red and swell, but sensitive
areas of the body are more often effected by this.
• If you treat the redness and swelling by often applying ice, then the
discomfort should subside within 2–7 days. During this time you may
clean the area gently, but should not expose the skin to direct sunlight.
