5. Installation and Start-Up
5.1. General
The following points must be noted in order to prevent
damages to the pump during installation and operation:
•
The installation work must be carried out by qualified
personnel in compliance with the safety regulations.
•
The pump must be checked for possible damages
prior to installation.
•
The minimum submersion in water must be consid-
ered for level control.
•
Air pockets in the pump casing and in pipes must be
absolutely avoided (by means of appropriate venting
facilities or slight tilting of the pump).
•
Protect the pump from frost.
•
The mechanical room must be designed for the re-
spective machinery. This includes also that a lifting
device for assembly/disassembly can be installed,
with which the installation site of the pump can be
reached without danger.
•
The lifting device must have a maximal lifting pow-
er which is more than the weight of the pump with
mounting parts and cable.
•
The power lines of the pump must run in such a way
that hazard-free operation and easy assembly/disas-
sembly is possible.
•
The power lines in the operating room must be in-
stalled properly in order to prevent loose hanging ca-
bles. Depending on the cable length and weight, a
cable bracket must be installed every 2-3m.
•
The foundation/building must have adequate struc-
tural strength for securing the pump safely and in a
proper functional manner. The plant operator is re-
sponsible for this.
•
Running dry is most strictly forbidden. We recom-
mend a level control system for this purpose.
•
Use baffle plates at the intake. This prevents air being
drawn into the conveyed medium, causing unfavour-
able operating conditions and increased wear.
5.2. Installation
Danger of falls!
When mounting the pump and its accessories, work
is carried out directly at the edge of the basin! Care-
lessness or wrong footwear can lead to falls. There
is danger to life! Take all safety measures to prevent
this.
Fix the pressure pipe or the hose on the pressure branch
of the pump and lay the pressure pipe. When using a
threaded hose connection or pipe connection, the hose
connector at the branch of the pump can be cut off.
In order to ensure optimum flow rate, the pressure line
should have a diameter of at least „ 1“ or 1 ¼“. Addition-
ally, a swing check valve can be mounted in the pressure
pipe to prevent backward running of the water when the
pump is switched off. The pressure pipe must be mount-
ed without tension.
When using a hose, it must be ensured that this is laid out
without bends. When using accessories, e.g. a quick cou-
pling or similar, it has to be ensured that these are sealed
with Teflon tape, since leakage reduces the conveyor per-
formance of the pump.
Fix the pump on the handhold with a rope or chain and
lower down into the medium. If the pumps are used on
a muddy or sandy bottom, they are to be installed hang-
ing from a cable with the suction opening at least 30 cm
above the bottom so that the admission sieve is protected
against obstruction.
Installation on the ground of type H816SW
Fix the pump on the handhold with a rope or chain and
lower down into the medium. The pressure pipe must be
laid out without bends. When used on muddy, sagging
ground stones or similar must be laid under the pump or
it must be placed in a close-meshed basket, so that the
intake strainer is protected from obstruction.
Automatic float switch
If the water level increases to a determined maximum
level (switching point), the floating float automatically
switches the pump on. If the water level has sunk to a de-
termined minimum level (tripping point) due to pumping
down, the float switches the pump off.
The reacting distance, i.e. the water level difference
between switching point and tripping point, can be
determined individually.
For perfect functioning, please note the following
information:
•
The mountings as well as the length of the freely
moveable end of the float cable must be adjusted to
the desired switch level. Here it has to be ensured
that the switching point of the pump is below the
entrance pipe so that an obstruction of the pumping
medium can be avoided. The tripping point must be
above the upper edge of the pump casing so that no
air pockets can develop in the pump, which could
possibly require de-aerating of the pump.
•
Under no circumstances may the float with the cable
be simply thrown into the medium, since a correct
switch is only possible with a rotational movement of
the float around the mounting point of the cable. Pos-
sible consequences in the event of non-compliance
are flooding (the pump does not start)/destruction of
the pump due to a dry run (the pump does not switch
off).
•
When using separate floats for start of the pump,
stop of the pump and alarm, the switch levels have to
be chosen as described above. The alarm float should
switch approximately 10 cm above the switch point
of the pump, however always below the input.
•
Important: After each change of the mounting of the
float, a correct function of the float switch must be
checked with a test run.
•
If the water is conveyed from a narrow water res-
ervoir, we recommend our dry-running protection kit
(available on request), which possesses a switch box
and three electrodes (earthing, water-shortage and
high-water electrode).
Float switch for intermediate coupling
Pumps without float switch can be retrofitted with a
HOMA float switch for intermediate coupling. The electri-
cal connection is done by the intermediate coupling of the
float switch between the outlet and the plug of the pump.
