How to Configure the TCP/IP Protocol

First of all, each computer requires its own IP address. An IP
address consists of a sequence of numbers according to the
following pattern:
192.168.1.x
In this example, x is an unambiguous, freely selectable num-
ber from 1 to 254. x must not be 0 or 255. Each computer must
have an unambiguous x number.
If you want to network 3 computers, for instance, you can
assign the following IP addresses:
192.168.1.1
192.168.1.47
192.168.1.100
In this case, 1, 47, 100 are freely selected numbers between 1
and 254.
Furthermore, each computer requires a subnet mask, which is
a kind of filter. If you are not sure what a subnet mask really is
or means, select the following value:
255.255.255.0

How to Configure TCP/IP under Windows 98 and ME
1. Got to Start > Settings > Control Panel. Double-click Net-
work.
2. If the TCP/IP protocol valid for your network interface
card is listed here, go to step 5. Otherwise, select Add.
3. Select Protocol > Add.
4. Select the appropriate protocol from the TCP/IP list in
the network protocol list and confirm with OK.
