Appendix II Calculation of Laser Firing Time
Absolute packing time
As shown in Section 3.2, the absolute packing time of a Point Cloud Data Packet is the sum of three parts:
•
UTC time up to hour (Year, Month, Day, Hour) in the most recent GPS Data Packet
•
4-
byte μs timestamp in
the Point Cloud Data Packet
•
one full second
Start time of each block
Assuming that the absolute packing time is t0, the start time of each block (the time when the first laser starts firing) can be calculated.
For Pandar40, there are 10 blocks of ranging data in each Point Cloud Data Packet, as shown below. Each block contains the ranging data from 40
channels, one return per channel.
