2. Motor

Hermansen e-bikes are equipped with an intelligent,

brushless and small 250W rear hub motor with built-

in controller, sensor and Bluetooth communication

module. It is a silent <50dB motor with a maximum

motor assisted speed level of 25 km/hr in compliance

with EU regulation. The motor has over-temperature,

overspeed, overload, undervoltage, overvoltage and

other protection functions.

The motor is powered by an external bottle shaped

battery placed on the e-bike’s seat post and

controlled from a Bluetooth connected smartphone

app. For more information about the battery please

see chapter 3. For more information about the app

please see chapter 4.

Turning the motor on and off

When you connect the power cable from the motor

to a charged battery, the motor is turned on. If

you disconnect the power cable from the battery

the motor turns off. The motor also turns off if the

connected battery is discharged.

If the e-bike is left idle with the power cable still

connected to a charged battery, the motor will go into

sleep-mode after being inactive for five minutes to

save battery. When you start riding your e-bike again

the motor turns back on.

Activating motor assistance

The motor has a pedal action sensor designed to

register when you turn the pedals. The motor only

provides assistance when you pedal, and when

you stop pedalling the motor stops supporting too.

It makes pedalling easy and feels like riding with

constant tail wind.

DANGER!

Note that a pedelec moves

immediately when you put your foot on

the pedal and it sets in motion. Always

first pull the brakes and then get on

the e-bike. Otherwise an unexpected

move can lead to hazard and injury.

Motor assist settings

The motor has four power assist settings which you

set from the smartphone app:

•  Off: Zero power assist

•  Eco: 40% of maximum power assist

•  Tour: 70% of maximum power assist

•  Sport: 100% of maximum power assist

When you start pedalling the motor starts to assist

you if you have chosen the Eco, Tour or Sport

setting. It will support you until you reach the allowed

maximum motor assisted speed level of 25 km/h. You

may also set the maximum motor assisted speed at

a lower level on the app. This means that the motor

will cut off at this speed level but start assisting your

again if your speed falls below 25 km/h. For more

information about how to set up the motor from the

app please see chapter 4.

Riding your e-bike

Before riding your e-bike for the first time you must

set up various motor and riding parameters in the app.

For more information about how to set up the motor in

app please see chapter 4.

The default power assist setting is Eco. This means

that if the e-bike has been turned off it will default to

the Eco setting when connected to a charged battery

again and you start riding your e-bike.

If your bike is in sleep-mode and you start riding your

e-bike again, the motor will reactivate and start to

support you with the latest chosen power assist level.

If you choose the Eco power assist setting, the

motor may not be able to get you to reach 25

km/h, depending on riding conditions, riding style,

cargo load and rider weight, unless you pedal with

considerable power yourself. In this case switch to

a higher power assist level if you want to increase

support and speed.

•  When driving uphill and headwind, you can

increase the power assist level to get an easier

ride.

•  Riding uphill for a long time with maximum

motor assist may activate the motor’s overheat

protection in which case the app will show an

overheat warning message. If this occurs, turn off

the motor and wait until the temperature drops.

When the temperature drops, the motor will

automatically return to working normally.

•  After riding, store your e-bike in a proper place.

•  If the bike is stored for a long time, disconnect the

power cable and avoid storing the e-bike near a

heat source.

Cleaning

Never use pressurised water, spray or steam to

clean your e-bike because water can be forced into

sealed areas and damage components like the motor,

cassette body, bearings and other parts.
