• Do not tamper with gas cylinder valves.
• Do not attempt to unlock blocked valves
with hammers, wrenches or other tools or
systems.
• Never delete or alter the name, number
or other markings affi xed to the gas cylin-
ders as this is prohibited and dangerous.
• Do not lift gas cylinders from the ground
by holding them from the valve or the cap,
or by using chains, slings or magnets.
• Never recharge gas cylinders; have them
recharged by a specialised company.
• Never alter or swap gas cylinder connec-
tions.
b) Pressure Regulator
• Keep pressure regulators in good wor-
king conditions. Damaged pressure re-
gulators can cause serious damages or
accidents and should be repaired only by
qualifi ed engineers.
• Do not use pressure regulators for gases
different from those they have been manu-
factured for.
• Never use a leaking or physically dama-
ged pressure regulator.
• Never lubricate a pressure regulator with
oil or grease.
c) Pipes
• Replace all pipes which appear to be da-
maged.
• Always keep fl exible pipes well taut to
avoid accidental kinks.
• Keep all excess pipe together and away
from the working area to avoid them getting
damaged.
1.4 FIRE
• Avoid the likelihood of fi re caused by spar-
ks, hot slags or red-hot workpieces.
• Make sure that suitable fi re fi ghting
equipment is at hand near the welding area.
Remove any fl ammable and combustible ma-
terials from the welding and nearby area (at
least 10 metres).
• Do not carry out welding operations on lu-
bricant and fuel containers, even if they are
empty; such containers should be thoroughly
cleaned before being welded.
• Allow the welded workpiece to cool down
before touching it or allowing it to come into
contact with combustible or fl ammable mate-
rials.
• Do not carry out any welding operations
on parts with cavities containing gases and
fl ammable dust.
• Always check the working area thirty minu-
tes after the welding operations have been
completed to avoid any possibility of fi re de-
veloping.
• Do not keep in your pocket any combusti-
ble materials such as lighters or matches.
1.5 PERSONAL
PROTECTION
EQUIPMENT
One of the dangers of spot welding opera-
tions is caused by red-hot fragments being
thrown out because of the electric arc. It is
therefore very important for the operator to
wear suitable personal protection equipment
such as:
• cow split or cow grain leather gloves
• cow split or cow grain leather aprons
• gaiters
• safety shoes
• safety mask (large enough to cover the
whole face and fi tted with safety glass able
to fi lter all radiations and greatly reduce the
light intensity absorbed by the eye).
WARNING!
Never look at the electric arc, in any
circumstances, without protecting the
eyes.
WARNING!
Another danger for the eyes is caused by
fragments or bits which may get detached
from the workpiece during the cutting,
grinding, brushing or hammering opera-
tions carried out to remove slags. When
carrying out these operations, always
wear safety goggles or masks fi tted with
see-through lenses in order to avoid fo-
reign particles from entering the eyes.
IMPORTANT: make sure that non refl ec-
tive screens are fi tted around the spot
welding area to avoid radiations emitted
from the electric arc from affecting anyo-
ne else working in nearby areas.
1.6 FUMES
Welding operations produce noxious metal
fumes and dust; for this reason, the following
precautions must be followed:
• do not work in poorly ventilated spaces.
• Make sure you keep your head above
