5.4 Manoeuvring
The scooter needs to be adjusted to your personal needs before you begin driving it.
After carrying out all of the checks, take your seat on the scooter. See ‘Mounting and
dismounting’.
You can now begin driving. Use the lap strap if applicable.
As the driver of the scooter, it is important to remember that other people may not
always notice you. Always pay sufficient attention to the people and traffic around you.
5.4.1 Forward drive and reverse drive
There are two levers on the tiller, one for forward
drive and one for reverse drive. The levers are
different colours.
Green: forward drive (A)
Yellow: reverse drive (B)
Forward drive
Forward drive with finger control:

Switch the scooter on. See ‘Switching on’
•
Pull the forward-drive lever (A) slowly back using your fingers. The further you pull
the lever towards you, the faster you will drive.
Reverse drive
Reverse drive with finger control:
•
Switch the scooter on. See ‘Switching on’
•
Pull the reverse-drive lever (B) slowly back using your fingers. The further you pull
the lever towards you, the faster you will drive in reverse.

Check to see that the space behind you is free before driving in
reverse.
•
The maximum speed for driving in reverse is half the maximum
speed for forward drive.
The speed regulator allows you to limit the maximum speed for both forward and
reverse drive.
Braking and stopping when in forward or reverse drive

On slowly releasing the forward-drive or reverse-drive lever, the Fortress Calypso
brakes and comes to a standstill.
On braking, the lights and brake lights illuminate automatically.

If you need to stop suddenly while driving (to perform an emergency stop), the drive
lever should be immediately released.
Under normal circumstances the drive lever can be released slowly if you wish to stop.
Once the scooter has come to a standstill, the parking brake is automatically applied.
