The inlet thermistor is attached to the top of the
heater assembly (on the right as viewed from
the back of the dryer). The thermistor measures
incoming air temperature and responds to
temperature changes.
The thermistor provides temperature change
information to the control board. The control
board makes heating decisions based on this
information. The thermistor has a Negative
Temperature C
oefficient, or NTC. As temperature
increases, resistance decreases.
Resistance can be measured between the two
yellow
wires at the CN3 connecter on the main
board, or the two
white
wires at the heater
harness connecter. Make sure to disconnect
the wire harness to isolate the thermistor before
taking resistance readings.
Operation of the thermistor can be checked by
using the Service Mode test t06 (see
Service
Mode Test
in the
Diagnostics and Service
Information
section of this service guide).
Specific failures associated with the inlet
thermistor can initiate Fault Code E3 (see
Fault Codes
in the
Diagnostics and Service
Information
section of this service guide).
To access the inlet thermistor, it is necessary to
remove the top and back cover (see
Top Cover
and
Heater Access Panel
in this section of this
service guide).
The manual reset thermostat and inlet thermistor
are not available as separate parts. To replace
the manual reset thermostat, or inlet thermistor, it
is necessary to replace the heater.
High Limit Thermostat
Inlet Thermistor (NTC2)
The high limit thermostat is attached to the top
of the heater assembly (in the middle as viewed
from the back of the dryer). The thermostat
monitors incoming air temperature.
If the thermostat reaches a temperature beyond
its maximum temperature rating of approximately
347°F, it will trip and disable power to heater.

The inlet thermostat is attached to the top of the
heater assembly (on the right, as viewed from
the back of the dryer). The thermostat monitors
incoming air temperature.
If the inlet thermostat reached a temperature of
approximately 284°F, it will open, disabling heater
operation, until it closes again at approximately
257°F.
If either the inlet or high limit thermostats fail and
cannot be reset, the complete heater assembly
will need to be replaced (see
Heater Assembly
in this section of this service guide).
