When a WX3000 series unified switch supplies power
to APs through PoE, the APs may work abnormally
Symptom
The WX3000 series unified switches support power over Ethernet (PoE). When a unified
switch supplies power to attached APs through PoE, some of the APs automatically
restart (disconnect from the AC).
Analysis
A switch supporting PoE has certain specifications in PoE power supply. When the total
supplied power exceeds the maximum power supply capacity of the switch, the switch
automatically disconnects some ports with lower priority. Therefore, APs attached to
these ports will restart.
Check the log information on the switch:
#Apr 6 11:26:44:368 2000 YXY-WLAN-04 DRV_DEM/5/POE WARNING:- 1 -Power budget
exceeded
#Apr 6 11:26:44:418 2000 YXY-WLAN-04 DRV_DEM/5/POE WARNING:- 1 -Poe function of
Ethernet1/0/6 is disabled.
The first line indicates the total supplied power exceeds the maximum power supply
capacity of the switch. The second line indicates the switch stops supplying power
through an interface.
Solution
Add more PoE switches or use PoE modules to separately supply power to the APs.
NOTE:
The power supply issue must be fully considered for network planning. The WX3000 series unified
switches have the PoE power supply requirements:
The WX3024 supports 24-port PoE+ with the maximum output power of 25 W per port, provides
a maximum of 370 W internal power supply, supports PoE+ for 14 ports simultaneously, and
supports PoE+ for 24 ports when it is used with an RPS unit.
The WX3010 supports 8-port PoE+ with the maximum output power of 25 W per port, provides a
maximum of 125 W internal power supply, supports PoE+ for 4 ports simultaneously, supports
PoE (802.3af) on eight ports, and supports PoE for eight ports simultaneously.
