spare disks (However, in rare cases, if another disk in the array fails when data is rewritten to
the spare disk, the logical disk will still fail).
•
After an online spare disk is configured, the system automatically assigns it to all logical disks
in the same array. When all arrays are on the same array controller card, there is no need to
assign an independent online spare disk to each array. Instead, configure one disk as the
online spare disk for all arrays.
6.2 Impacts of Disk Failure on Logical Disks
When a disk fails, it affects all logical disks in the same array. Since each logical disk in the array
may use different fault tolerance methods, each logical disk will be affected differently.
•
RAID 0 cannot tolerate any disk failure. If any physical disk in the array fails, all RAID 0 logical
disks in the same array fail accordingly.
•
RAID 1, RAID 1E, and RAID 10 can tolerate the failure of one or more disks as long as the
failed disks are not mirrored.
•
RAID 5 can tolerate the failure of one physical disk.
•
RAID 50 can tolerate the failure of one disk in each RAID 5.
•
RAID 6 can tolerate the failure of two disks.
•
RAID 60 can tolerate the failure of two disks in each RAID 6.
6.3 Fault Tolerance Methods
6.3.1 RAID 0
, RAID 0 configuration can stripe data but fail to prevent data loss in the event of
a disk failure.
