5.5 HYDRAULIC CONNECTIONS
The Thermodynamic Box has a water inlet and outlet located on the bottom front of the Box (Please refer
the fig 1). The minimum pipe size of 22mm should be used for the water connections. Copper pipe must be
used, not plastic or push fit fittings as these may restrict the flow. Pipes within 1 metre of the cylinder must
be lagged/insulated. The hydraulic system will vary dependant on the existing type of cylinder/buffer tank.
VENTED SYSTEMS
•
Water inlet and outlet connections of the cylinder should be connected as per the fig 11.
•
Water inlet connection to the Thermodynamic Box should always be connected to the first ‘T’ off
point of the cylinder. The connection to the taps should be the 2nd ‘T’ off point.(fig. 11) Drain Cock
must be installed on the lowest part of the system for draining the system.
•
The cylinder must be insulated to allow the Thermodynamic Unit to work correctly, if the cylinder is
naked it should be replaced or an insulating jacket installed.
•
Do not fit the pipes to an existing coil in the cylinder; this may stop the Box reaching maximum
temperature and reduce performance.
•
The Thermodynamic Box should be positioned as close to the water cylinder as possible to
minimise length of plumbing required. Keep bends and turns to a minimum.
•
An inline Y-filter should be installed to stop dirt or debris getting into the plate heat exchanger.
Failure to install this will invalidate the warranty. This is included in the optional Installer Pack.
•
A non-return valve must be installed between the water storage tank and the cylinder. Ensure that
the water pressure is sufficient to open the valve otherwise air may be drawn into the system. In
these circumstances a flappy style (penny) valve should be used. This is included in the Installers
Pack. (please see back of manual). A spring loaded valve may restrict water flow and is therefore
not recommended.
UNVENTED/PRESSURISED SYSTEMS
•
Water inlet and outlet connections of the cylinder should be connected as per the fig 12.
•
Water inlet connection to the Thermodynamic Box should always be connected to the first ‘T’ off
point of the cylinder. The connection to the taps should be the 2nd ‘T’ off point. (fig.12) Drain Cock
must be installed on the lowest part of the system for draining the system.
•
The Thermodynamic Box should be positioned as close to the water cylinder as possible to
minimise length of plumbing required. Keeps bends and turns to a minimum.
•
The installer should assemble the proper filter, pressure gauge, expansion vessel and safety devices
according to the scheme showed in fig.12.
•
We recommend a potable expansion vessel of approx. 18 litres for a 200 litre water cylinder.
The installer should satisfy himself of the correct sizing dependant on cylinder size.
