Additional Safety for
Electric Pipe & Tube Notchers
No list of safety guidelines can be com-
plete. Every shop environment is different.
Always consider safety first, as it applies
to your individual working conditions. Use
this and other machinery with caution and
respect. Failure to do so could result in
serious personal injury, damage to equip-
ment, or poor work results.
Like all machinery there is potential danger
when operating this machine. Accidents
are frequently caused by lack of familiarity
or failure to pay attention. Use this machine
with respect and caution to decrease the
risk of operator injury. If normal safety pre-
cautions are overlooked or ignored, seri-
ous personal injury may occur.
AMPUTATION HAZARD. Keep hands/fingers
away from notching holes while machine is con-
nected to power. A finger inserted between dies
can easily be pinched, crushed, or amputated if
notcher is turned
ON.
PROTECTION AGAINST SHARP EDGES. Sharp
edges on cut metal workpieces can easily cause
lacerations while handling. Wear leather gloves to
help protect your hands when handling workpieces,
and always chamfer and deburr sharp workpiece
edges. Wear steel-toed shoes to protect feet if
workpiece is dropped.
WORKPIECE SUPPORT. Always support
workpiece when performing notching operation.
Failure to do so can apply excessive force to dies
that they are not designed to bear. Avoid awkward
body and hand positions where a sudden slip or
jerk could cause your hand or body to fall into work
area or sharp workpiece edge.
GUARDS. Guards and covers protect against
entanglement or flying objects. Always ensure they
are properly installed while machine is running.
CLEARING METAL REMNANTS. Metal scraps
can be razor sharp. Avoid clearing them by hand
with compressed air or with a rag. Use a brush or
vacuum instead.
USE FOR INTENDED PURPOSE. This machine
is designed for notching tubes and pipes made
of carbon steel or non-ferrous materials. DO NOT
use it to notch other materials or materials that
exceed capacities of machine (refer to
Machine
Data Sheet). Cutting incorrect materials can pro-
duce unexpected results, which increases risk
of injury, and may result in damage to machine.
Exceeding machine capacities may eject danger-
ous metal debris at operator or bystanders, or
cause machine damage.
Notching dies are sharp and can easily amputate fingers or other body parts inserted into
notching holes. Workpieces can jerk or move suddenly when being notched and strike operator
or bystanders. Severe cuts can occur to hands/fingers when contacting sharp workpiece
edges. To reduce your risk of these hazards when operating this machine, completely heed and
understand the following:
