Armrests

Armrests are available in a range of heights and
shapes., with a choice of arm pads depending
on user need. These are all interchangeable.

Armrests are secured towards the front of the
side frame, in socket locations, and pivoted at
the  rear  of  the  backrest  location.  They  are
released by a front  catch and pivoted upwards
and backwards to allow occupant side transfer.

When not in use for transfer, armrests should
be fully located in the front socket at all times.
An armrest that is not fully located is prone to
accidental damage.

The  front  armrest  socket  has  a  quarter  turn
hand  release  feature  The  armrest  can  be
swivelled back into the front socket, where it will
latch into position automatically.

Armrest side panels my be produced in a semi
transparent  grade  of  structural  plastic,  which
has  some  flexibility  or  rigid  aluminium  as
determined  by  the  assessment.  When  chairs
are built for narrow access, the rigid  side panel
reduces sideways flexing.

Side  panels should  be  kept  clean  using  a  soft
damp  cloth,  and  mild  detergent.  They  should
not be rubbed with an abrasive pad.

The armrest should be secured in position at all
times. It is not recommended that the armrests
are grasped by the attendants to lift the chair
and  occupant.  Heavy  lifting  operations  should
be avoided.

Backrests

As a general guide, a seated occupant should be
in contact with the back support all the way up
to  within  a  hands  width  of  the  top  of  the
upholstery.

Backrests may be foldable, with a hinged push

-

handle  which  automatically  locks  into  place
when  the  back  is  lifted  to  the  occupant
supporting  position.  A  folding  back  will  allow
storage in a small space.

If  the  wheelchair  is  to  be  used  in  transport,
accessibility  to  this  should  be  checked  at
assessment and handover to ensure equipment
compatibility.
