8. Selecting the charge program group
9. Using the charger for the first time.
The charge and setup facilities of the ULTRAMAT 25 are easy to
understand, and are logically divided into four program groups.
These cater for the various battery types: there is a separate pro-
gram group for each of the types

An additional program group contains the charger’s basic setup
facilities.
Switching programs:
z
It is only possible to switch from one charge program group to the
next if
no battery is connected
to the charge outputs.
If a battery is connected to the unit, it is
not
possible to switch to
a different charge program group; you must first disconnect the
battery from the charger’s output sockets.
z
It is only possible to switch from one charge program group to the
next when the charger is in
AUTOMATIC
mode. This means that
you must first press the
MODE
button repeatedly until the top line
of the screen displays the message “
AUTOMATIC
”.
z
Press the
ENTER
button to switch program groups..
When the ULTRAMAT 25 is initially connected to a 12 V car battery, the unit runs through the informa-
tion routine which provides the user with a brief summary of the essential user settings. The charger’s
screen displays the following information in sequence:
The ULTRAMAT 25 informs you of its designation.
The screen displays the voltage of the car battery at which the
charger breaks off the charge / discharge process due to in-
sufficient voltage. You can change this value in the program
group “User settings - low-voltage - cut-off”.
The screen displays the trigger voltage for automatic charge
termination which is set in the “User settings - Delta Peak volta-
ge” menu. The voltage is set separately for NiCd and NiMH
batteries, and the figure is stated in mV per cell.
The screen displays the initial charge program which is set in
the program group “User settings - power-on settings”, together
with the initial charge current.
The charger is now ready for use.

6. Charge and discharge programs „Akku“
The various facilities of the charger are divided up into four program groups which you can select by
pressing the
ENTER
button. The sequence is shown in the flow chart below.
Note
: If a battery is connected to the charger, it is not possible to switch to a different program group.
This is an intentional safety feature, designed to make it impossible to switch accidentally to a charge
program which is unsuitable for the battery in question when a charge process is actually in progress.
You can interrupt the charge process at any time by pressing the “MODE” button.
Ni-Cd battery programs: recharge, condition, balance, discharge to measure capacity or residual
capacity, or select cells.
Ni-MH battery programs: recharge, discharge to measure capacity or residual capacity, or select cells.
LiIo / LiPo battery programs: Charge, discharge to determine capacity, residual capacity, and cell
selection.
Lead-acid programs: recharge, discharge to measure capacity or residual capacity, trickle charge for
stand-by operation.
User settings: determine the basic functions of the charger, and set individual parameters within the
various charge programs.
