from a yellow burner may occur, indicating the possibility of
carbon monoxide. You may also notice a lack of efficiency in
heating the water because of incomplete combustion of the
burner at these higher altitudes. Consult with a local propane
company, your dealer or the water heater manufacturer for
proper de-rating of the water heater. Change out of the orifice
(de-rating) should be done by the dealer or a qualified service
agency.

It is important that once the RV has returned to lower ele-
vation (below 4500 feet) any high altitude deration or other
adjustments be reversed for proper operation of the water
heater.

Pressure and temperature relief valve

When cold water is heated in the water heater tank, the water
pressure will rise. For this reason, a pressure and tempera-
ture (P&T) relief valve is required for safety in all water heat-
ers. It is normal for the P&T relief valve to release a small
quantity of water during the heating cycle and does not indi-
cate a defective P&T relief valve.

One way to reduce the frequency of the water weeping or
dripping from the P&T relief valve is to maintain an air pocket
at the top of the water heater. This air pocket will form in the
tank by design; however, it will be reduced over time by the
everyday use of your water heater (refer to the manufacturer’s
manual); If the weeping persists, consult your dealer or a ser-
vice agency authorized by the water heater manufacturer.

Water heater bypass

The water heater bypass is comprised of three valves, locat-
ed at the back of the water heater: one hot water line bypass
valve, one cold water line bypass valve, and one mixer (mid-
dle) valve.
