Replacement / Rotation of Flails
The flails in this Granberg Chipper Shredder are attached to the drum of the machine and are
designed to hammer the material being shredded (from the top feed chute only), breaking it
down to a quality determined by the chipper screen hole size.
In time, these flails will wear and will need to be reversed in order to obtain a new leading edge.
To reverse or replace flails, follow the procedure set out below:
1.
Ensure that the engine is turned off and that all moving parts have come to a complete stop.
2.
Remove the spark plug lead from the spark plug.
3.
Remove the discharge chute cover by removing the spring loaded securing draw rod.
4.
Push the discharge chute down.
5.
Remove the nyloc nuts from the chipper screen draw rods and withdraw the
rods to release the
chipper screen. Remove the chipper screen.
6.
Remove the chipper blade access cover plate by unbolting the 8mm set screw.
7.
Rotate the drum to align flail rod with the access hole located under the engine plate.
8.
Remove nyloc nut and set screw securing flail rod to drum.
9.
Remove the flail rod by gently tapping the end of the rod with a brass drift through the chipper blade
access cover. The flail rod should exit from the access hole located under the engine plate.
