25. Use a wrench to
CAREFULLY tighten the nut (11)
against the piston rod to 19 ft–lbs (25 N.m). See
Fig 8.
26. Use two wrenches to maintain the alignment men-
tioned in Step 4, page 8.
27. Put a new o–ring (17*) firmly in the cylinder
groove. See Fig 10.
28. One at a time stack the male gland (8*), alternate
the packings (13*, 7*), and then install the female
gland (9*), into the top of the cylinder (19). See Fig
10.
29. Install the packing nut (16) and plug (5), but leave
loose for now. See Fig 10.
NOTE: The tapered end of the sleeve is the bottom of
it. Do not install it upside down. See Fig 10.
30. Coat the piston rod and packings with oil. Carefully
slide the assembly
into the top of the sleeve .
31. Then slide the sleeve/piston rod assembly
into the
bottom of the cylinder. This procedure helps pre-
vent damaging the packings during reassembly.
See Fig 9.

32. Screw down the cylinder locknut (8) until it is finger
tight at the bottom of the external cylinder threads.
See Fig 10.
33. Put the flats of the intake valve (23) in a vise. In-
stall a new o-ring (1*) and screw the intake valve
into the pump cylinder. See Fig 10. Torque the
valve to 110 ft–lb (146 N.m).
