MAGNETOTHERAPY
Magnetotherapy is a type of physiotherapy that uses electromagnetic energy.
This is advisable if it is necessary to stimulate the turn-over of the tissues after injurious
events of any kind:
-
bony fractures’healing
-
treatment of vascular cutaneous ulcers (in diabetic patients)
-
anatomic and functional recovery of injured nerves
-
reduction of disfiguring cutaneous cicatrix
-
treatment of contusions, articular distorsions and slight muscular-articular trauma
By using magnetic fields on the body the difences are potentiated with electrical re-polarization
of the cells, antistress action is produced, the cells are turned-over improving enzymatic
kinectics and cellular membranes are repolarized.
The action of the magnetic fields on free radicals, oligoelements and ferromagnetic substances
of the intracellular surrounding, is very important for the omeostatic balance of the cell.
So Magnetotherapy induces the acceleration of all repairing phenomena by strong
bioregenerative, antiphlogistic, antiedematous, antalgic action.
Magnetic fields application influences the several processes regulating the vital functions of the
cellular membrane and have effects on level of neuro-vegetative and metabolic regulation,
recharging and regenerating the cells without vital force.
Magnetic fields are divided in:
constant magnetic field
magnetic fields varying in the time or called pulsed magnetic fields.
Constant magnetic fields are produced by permanent magnets or by electromagnets crossed by
constant continuous current. Permanent magnets are made by particular high permeability
ferromagnetic league, they are small disks, like coins, that are applied in contact with the skin
for a period of time. This method is advisable on muscular-skeleton pains, both inflammatory
and traumatic kind, by placing the magnetes on the painful zones and on the Trigger Points, that
is small cutaneous zones that, if stimulated, produce pain from distance. Magnetic field
produced is very high, from 3000 to 10.000 Gauss or more, but as it decreases by taking away
from these points in directly proportional way to the square of the distance, it is needed to apply
the magnet nearer to the treated zone.
Variable or pulsed magnetic fields are divided in high (over the MHz) and low frequency (from
1 to 3000 Hz) electromagnetic fields.
High frequency pulsed magnetic fields use frequencies in the range of 1-300 MHz, used in the
marconitherapy too. This last therapy wants to obtain a strong thermical effect by using high
powers, while in Magnetotherapy a MHz frequency and its harmonics, pulsed from 5 to 600
